BMW Invests € 400 Million in New Plant for BMW iNEXT
The BMW Group will invest about 400 million euros in the Dingolfing automobile plant for the production of BMW iNEXT. With the launch of the BMW iNEXT in 2021, the Dingolfing plant will be able to produce a sufficient number of electric vehicles, hybrid models or gasoline-powered cars in accordance with demand and market development - all on one assembly line. Plug-in hybrid models account for nearly 10 percent of Dingolfing's production. BMW iNEXT will be the first clean electric vehicle produced in 2021.
The new model will be flexibly and efficiently launched in line with the BMW 5 Series, 7 Series and 8 Series in one of two Dingolfing assembly halls. However, on electrified and autonomous cars such as the BMW iNEXT, some mounting elements are distributed differently in the manufacturing process compared to conventional cars.
More assembly work is required, such as installing a battery and associated high-voltage cables. Additional sensors, cleaning systems and high-performance computers are needed for autonomous cars. Work on the construction of a three-story assembly application began in the summer of 2018.
