BMW cuts costs: some production lines will be closed in favor of electric vehicles

BMW is launching a cost-cutting plan. The company management has already reached an agreement with trade unions protecting the rights of employees.

The leadership of the German automaker made a radical decision after analyzing the financial statements and came to the conclusion that by 2022 they would need to save 12 billion euros. Thus, employees took a measure that deprives them: processing bonuses and bonuses to help the company. Measures will be implemented next year.

The announcement came shortly after major rivals Mercedes-Benz and Audi announced decisive action: carmaker Ingolstadt announced its intentions to lay off at least 9,500 employees worldwide by 2025 to redirect financial resources to the development of electric vehicles and autonomous technologies.

And Mercedes-Benz announced that by 2022, it would lay off about 10 percent of its executive staff to increase cost-effectiveness, thereby relying on an economy of one billion euros.
